ABOUT THE INGREDIENTS:
Organic and Fairly Traded Shea Butter from a co-operative in Ghana. Soothing and extremely therapeutic, it helps renew cracked, aged and damaged skin and can help heal bruising and soreness. It has mildly antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, good moisture-retaining properties and protects the skin from drying out. Shea butter gets to work deep in the skin and leaves it feeling soft, smooth and refreshed. Rich in vitamin A, E and good for all skin types. It too is suitable for preventing or treating stretch marks during and after pregnancy because of the phytosterol content.
Our organic lavender flowers from France are harvested at high altitudes. When lavender is grown at over 1400 meters, the plant produces more esters. If the oil is also distilled at high altitude, there is a lower air pressure. This means a lower temperature can be used when distilling and more of the very volatile chemicals come through from the plant to the oil. It is more than worth the effort and extra expense. This is a superb oil. The list of properties for lavender is one of the longest of all the aromatherapy oils. Some people get confused what to use it for and one of the best things it does is to act as a synergist. Whatever the attributes of the other essential oils in a blend, lavender seems to make those oils work even harder by being included. The high altitude lavender seems to work better on the emotional aspects of a problem. Lavender is the number one choice to use on minor burns and skin problems. It is calming to the nerves and can assist with depression but works best in small amounts. It’s a good analgesic for muscular aches and pains especially sports related injuries as well as rheumatism and arthritis. It works very well with rose for mature skincare.
Zaytoun Organic, Fairly Traded, Cold Pressed, Extra Virgin Oil remains an essential ingredient in our kitchen but is also good for mature or dry skin. It is a classic oil for dry, chapped skin on elbows, knees, hands and feet. It offers excellent lubrication and a soft, smooth feeling on the skin.
Olive oil’s nourishing, softening and protecting properties are well-known but it is also an anti-inflammatory and so very valuable to use in oil blends that treat skin irritations, insect bites, sun-damaged skin, eczema, psoriasis and itchiness.
If you have never had the privilege of using an olive oil soap (Castile Soap) made with 100% olive oil – then we recommend you treat yourself! It is one luxuriously lathering soap that your skin will love you for!
Coconut Oil (Liquid Fractionated)
Our Organic and Fairly Traded Coconut oil comes from a co-operative in Ghana. It adds body, good lubricating & softening properties to massage oils and other skin care products - particularly good in skin protection products. As this is a fatty oil it is often used in protective skin care products to protect the skin from the elements. It is often used for its beneficial hair care qualities. It is excellent on dry skin. The benefit of coconut oil on the skin is comparable to that of mineral oil. Further, unlike mineral oil, there is no chance of having any adverse side effects on the skin with the application of coconut oil. Coconut oil therefore is a safe solution for preventing dryness and flaking of skin. It also delays wrinkles, and sagging of skin which normally become prominent with age. Coconut oil also helps in treating various skin problems including psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin infections. Coconut oil also helps in preventing premature aging and degenerative diseases due to its antioxidant properties. It is a super cleansing addition that produces big, copious bubbles in soap.
Organic Apricot Kernal Oil
This clear, light oil, with a slight fragrance and mild taste is known as a semi-fat oil which is great for sensitive, dry or mature skin. It is an oil that spreads well and is easily absorbed by the skin albeit quite slowly (around 20- 50 minutes) and is therefore excellent for use in whole body massage oil blends. It is a mild oil, tolerated by most people but remains a classic skin oil for sensitive skin. It enhances skin elasticity and has a soft and smooth quality on the skin.
Apricot kernel oil is a long oil, in that a drop goes a long way and so is very good for long strokes in whole body massage but you will also find it used in anti-wrinkle creams, facial creams etc
Natural Vitamin E Oil
Pure vitamin E oil is extremely versatile. Vitamin E oil promotes healing and is an active ingredient in many products available for skin and nails. Vitamin E is a strong antioxidant that prevents premature aging. Wrinkles come from age, free radical damage, improper skin care and poor habits such as smoking and drinking alcohol in excess. Vitamin E oil prevents the formation of wrinkles by blocking free radical damage. It treats wrinkles by boosting collagen production, a connective tissue that keeps skin elastic. Vitamin E oil also treats wrinkles by supporting new skin cell growth and speeding up cell regeneration.
